WHAT IS PUSO?

DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY-PARENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ORGANIZATION (DLSU-PUSO) -MANILA, INC., is a non-stock corporation registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on December 27, 1985, under SEC Registration No. 130425, with principal office address located at the 3/F John Hall Building, DLSU Campus, 2401 Taft Avenue, Malate, Manila, established to create an atmosphere conducive to good and harmonious relationship between parents, teachers, students, the community and school authorities, as stated in its Articles of Incorporation.

In 1985, Br. Andrew Gonzales, then DLSU President, saw the need for the greater involvement of the parents in university affairs. Until then, university decisions were arrived at in consultation with the four distinct sectors – the administration, the faculty, students and non-teaching staff.  With the help of a core group of interested parents, Br. Andrew initiated the establishment of the Parents of University Students Organization.

It has been operating since the time of its inception in 1985 and has been known in the Lasallian Community since then.

As the fifth sector of the academic community, PUSO aims to fully participate in the University’s decision-making process.  PUSO serves as the link. The organization envisions itself to act as mediator among potentially conflicting sectors thereby animating the university with a sense of community and solidarity.

Believing in the school’s philosophy of the total development of the students, PUSO has geared its project to the improvement of the university facilities by providing capital expenditures for the projects which were undertaken together with the La Sallian community.  Most noteworthy of these projects since the inception of the PUSO are the construction of the Pearl of the Great Price Chapel (the old one near the Faculty Center).

PUSO believes that the parents are the primary educators of their children and that there should be a home and school collaboration.

PUSO published its newsletter prior years to be able to reach out to the parents and to the students and their concerns.  Through this venue, the parents are able to give their stand on certain issues and manifest their involvement in crucial issues confronting the University.

PUSO likewise stays in touch with the University Student Government and other student organizations in the various open discussions touching on the various facets of student life.
